Colt Model 1855 Sidehammer "Root Model" Pocket Revolver was produced between 1855 and 1870. This model was Colt's only black powder handgun built on the solid frame principle, in contrast to the firm's standard design of barrel and cylinder which are readily removable from the frame. The grips are of one piece varnished walnut, and are unique in all of Colt's handgun production.
